This painting is an exploration of depth and distance, shifting values and cooling light. From the textured foreground to the atmospheric reach of the distance—a window into the vast. It offers a window to the boundless part of the world we call home. My inspiration came from the long beaches I saw on the West Coast of BC.

Sometimes, words fail to capture the true power and beauty of the sea. In creating Immersion, I moved away from what I saw and began painting exclusively how I felt.

I became so deeply immersed in the experience of the water—the salt air, the shifting horizon, and the weight of the tide—that the process became a language of its own. This piece is an invitation to step away from the shore and lose yourself in that same fluid energy. It isn't a map of a place, but a record of a feeling: the quiet, all-encompassing strength of being truly at one with the ocean.

On my trip to Tofino I experienced the feeling of looking out over the great sea and beyond. It was endless and so beautiful. There are many vantage points to look out to sea and it is a never ending and very expansive feeling.

There is tension in the sea when a cresting wave rises to its peak and crashes down again. It causes excitement and fear at once. The boldness and strength on display ignites emotions that rise up from deep down and subside when all is calm again.

Crosscurrent explores the point of ultimate collision. This kinetic surge captures the power of two opposing forces—the dark and light values—which I've punctuated with sharp streaks of red and yellow, the colors of warning. The piece is about the struggle, the resistance, and the raw, unbridled energy of being pulled in two directions at once."

Morning Walk is my take on the coastline's raw energy. I often wake up to a quiet sunrise however this piece is about the sea's powerful conversation: the wind, the tide and the light. Deep navies and aggressive texture are used to capture that moment when the shore is awake and moving. A walk meant to be felt.

In a flash the waves shift and crash and everything is transformed. The drama and intensity of the sea is what I'm after here. This one has a lot of movement and drama. The sides are painted so no need for a frame.

In this dynamic artwork, the focal point is the gap, a subject I cherish and paint often. It symbolizes both the commencement and conclusion of the journey, embodying the essence of both adventure and home simultaneously.

The gap is a constant calling to me as I see it from my studio window and it has a metaphorical meaning to us. Passing through the gap on our sailing voyages indicates we are on holiday and ready for adventure at sea. There is only the water and distance that lies between us and our destination.

The west coast fjords from the water offer stunning vistas. This painting shows some of the elements I find so fascinating when I'm passing by. A wisp of cloud crests the rocky landform and the sky remains a passive and calm blue above. It is a highly textural painting.

This painting carries the energy of the sea in constant motion, but it’s the calm in the upper right that reinforces the sense of letting go, of freedom. It’s about that moment when turbulence breaks into openness, leaving a feeling of liberation.

In this piece, I wanted to capture that moment of raw collision — water driving into rock, spray rising, energy released. It’s the pulse of the sea made visible, the impact that leaves its mark long after the wave recedes. This one is framed in a rustic burl oak float frame.

Mountains and sky merge seamlessly in this dynamic yet peaceful abstract painting. Inspired by the view from my studio, I captured the essence of the mountain range meeting the sea under a vibrant, layered sky of soft blues. I painted around the edges, allowing the artwork to be appreciated from any angle.

Surge is bold and dynamic with a touch of drama to make a powerful statement about our ocean and it's wonderful energy. This painting can transform a room and the more you look the more you will see.

The raw energy of the ocean surges below as sailboats balance precariously atop a rising crest. "On the Verge" explores that fleeing moment of suspension - the peak of the climb before the rush of the fall - where the elements and the vessel exist in a state of high-tension harmony.
