We often see the colour of the ocean change depending on the weather and light. It is like a trajectory that we can follow to the horizon.

Sounds of splashing and laughter are heard in my studio. Not far below is the beach and there are always a lot of people enjoying the water. This painting expresses the small joy of jumping into the water.

The sound of the water hitting rocks or shoreline is beautiful to me. Capturing the energy is always something I am after and this one has all that and more.

This is one of my calmer paintings. I've painted the Gap outside my studio window over and over discovering its ever changing moods. In this piece there is a silence between the two land forms when the Gap's waters are still and the horizon beyond beckons. I know it's clear and calm out there which will make a good crossing over Georgia Straight.

Out on the local waters, the view is always moving. This painting captures a glimpse of the shoreline—trees like lace you can see through, with the water dancing out front.

By building up layers of paint, I wanted to contrast the weight of the dark bluff against the ethereal, shifting mist. It’s an exploration of atmosphere—the way the landscape both reveals itself and retreats into the fog, creating a moment of profound, quiet stillness.

Sometimes, words fail to capture the true power and beauty of the sea. In creating Immersion, I moved away from what I saw and began painting exclusively how I felt.

They are in conversation with the sea.

In a flash the waves shift and crash and everything is transformed. The drama and intensity of the sea is what I'm after here. This one has a lot of movement and drama. The sides are painted so no need for a frame.

The gap is a constant calling to me as I see it from my studio window and it has a metaphorical meaning to us. Passing through the gap on our sailing voyages indicates we are on holiday and ready for adventure at sea. There is only the water and distance that lies between us and our destination.

There is tension in the sea when a cresting wave rises to its peak and crashes down again. It causes excitement and fear at once. The boldness and strength on display ignites emotions that rise up from deep down and subside when all is calm again.

Inspired by the little dip I see in the landscape across the water on Keat's island. It is my morning wake up call to seize the day.
